Why does “your choice” make sense now? |
|
Until recently, the best deal for you was for your employer to choose your health insurance plan. Now because of changes in the law and how the insurance companies look at individuals, it is better for your employer to give you money so you may choose your own health insurance plan. |

What does this mean for me? |
|
With your choice come new responsibilities and involvement. ContinuousHealth is here to help you as you make your choice. We have the technology. We understand insurance companies and their coverages. We want to help you make the right decision for you. We will assist you in choosing the health care plan that is right for you--one that fits your needs and budget--and a plan that allows you to go to the doctors you prefer. Most importantly your new plan will be one you can keep. |

What types of plans can I choose? |
|
The choices available to you are all very good choices. The leading insurance companies have created plans specifically designed for individuals like you. You will be familiar with many of your carrier choices such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Humana, and Kaiser. Some companies may not be as familiar to you but these plans offer the same doctors and networks as group coverage. Prescriptions and co-pays will be similar and claims are processed in the same way as your group insurance. Best of all you get to make the choice. |

What are my choices if I don’t go to the doctor often? |
|
You can make a choice that offers more value for the thousands of dollars your employer currently spends on health insurance that you may never need or use. You might want to choose a plan that provides coverage in the case of a catastrophic illness or injury. If you don’t get sick or injured, you may save the money for future healthcare needs. |
| 5. |
What are my choices if I am thinking of starting a family? |
|
You will want to choose a plan with maternity coverage and one that includes your choice of obstetrician and pediatrician. You will want a plan with flexible options for labor and delivery. If you won’t need maternity coverage, you won’t have to pay for the coverage of others as in a group plan. |
| 6. |
What are my choices if I have a serious medical condition? |
|
Because of protections provided by federal law, everyone who has had group health insurance is eligible for an individual health insurance plan, regardless of health history. These plans vary by state but because ContinuousHealth specializes in understanding all of the options available, we will help you make the best choice available to you. |
| 7. |
What are my choices if I get sick? Can I be terminated? |
|
Once you have your own health insurance plan it can never be cancelled and your rates can never be increased because your health changes. Individual health insurance policies are different from your auto insurance. Rates will increase because of inflation and as you get older, but you can never be singled out for a rate increase just because of your personal health. |
| 8. |
What are my choices if I get laid off or lose my job? |
|
Many people have lost their health insurance in the past because it was tied to their job. When they got too sick to work, they could no longer afford to pay for the high price of a group health plan. After you have made your choice for your health plan, it is yours to keep, regardless of where you work. |
| 9. |
What if I change jobs or go to work for a new employer? |
|
When you own your own individual health insurance policy, you have a lot of options. When you go to work for a new employer, ask that employer to provide you money instead of your enrolling in the group plan. Then you can keep your own individual policy. You may look at the new employer’s group plan and decide it would be better to enroll in a group plan again. Your individual health plan counts as “creditable coverage” so you will be eligible for the group plan without a waiting period for a pre-existing condition. The great thing is that you have a choice. |
| 10. |
What if I am thinking about retirement? |
|
Many people who are under 65 and thinking of retirement become apprehensive, knowing that when they retire their group coverage may terminate. If you have your own individual coverage, you own it regardless of what job you have. It’s yours as long as you continue to pay the premiums. You own that policy. You have security in early retirement that never before was possible. |
| 11. |
Why am I better off choosing my own plan? |
|
In the past your employer spent thousands and thousands of dollars on your health insurance. Unfortunately, in many cases, it was wasted money. The only way for you to get value out of the health insurance dollars your employer spent was to get sick. Now it is better for your employer to provide you with money so you can get value out of those dollars by choosing a plan that fits you. |
| 12. |
What are my options? |
|
It depends upon your needs. If you go to the doctor frequently you might choose a more comprehensive health plan that utilizes all the money your employer gives you for insurance. If you rarely go to the doctor, you might want a plan that uses a portion of the employer contribution for health insurance, but allows you to deposit a portion of the money into a bank account that you may keep for your future healthcare needs. |
